New High-Performance Homes in The Seattle Area on The Rise

Over the last five years, we’ve seen somewhat of a market transformation in home building in the Greater Seattle area.  Increased demand for energy efficiency and healthy homes that are LEED, Energy Star, Passivhaus or Built Green certified homes.

High-performance homes are becoming in greater demand.

A popular green building program in the Greater Seattle area is Built Green a voluntary home building program in King and Snohomish  Counties.  King and Snohomish Counties have some of the toughest building codes in the country.  Builders in the voluntary Build Green program build beyond county codes focusing on energy & water conservation, indoor air quality, stormwater management, and using locally sourced building or recycled materials.

Green Building by The Number

In 2016 58% of the new single-family were Built Green certified.  Built Green certified 1,003 projects in  2016.
